How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test because there are different connector pins, and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully functional, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. 2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing anymore. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. When I start the engine without sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline pop out, but the 4th one stays shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. i get 0ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it runs fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, but i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump
